KOTA KINABALU - Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) plans to collaborate with Changsha University of Science and Technology, China, in field of academics and technology.
UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin said the collaboration was being discussed by its Confucius Institute (CI), to create an academic partnership between UMS's Engineering Faculty (FKJ) and the university.
"Besides that, the exchange of technical expertise between FKJ and CCCC Dredging (Group) Co. Ltd, a multinational construction company from China, would benefit both parties," said Taufiq in his speech at the launching of the UMS CI logo, here today.
The event which was a historical moment for UMS CI since its inception last December was witnessed by the Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu Liang Caide and UMS CI director Prof Dr Low Kok On.
In another development, Taufiq said UMS CI had advertised its first intake for Mandarin class which would held every Saturday.
For a start, priority will be given to UMS staff and their children by offering a special fee, he said.
"The Mandarin classes which will start from the first to the sixth level, will be expanded in stages to schools, government agencies and private schools throughout Sabah," he said, adding that UMS staff should take the opportunity to learn Mandarin.
