The UNISEL Sports And Culture Center is a place where students can focus on whether they are interested in sports or culture. This sports and culture center is also the focus of students for healthy activities because every evening we can see students meet at the UNISEL sports complex for futsal, basketball, jogging and more.
It has also been used by many students not only for sports activities but also for the purpose of organizing events such as an interfaith sporting event organized by Diploma students in Communication and Media in 2019. UNISEL was officially opened in 1999 and the beginning of the establishment of this sports and cultural center was at UNISEL, Shah Alam Campus, when UNISEL, Bestari Jaya Campus was opened in 2006, it was relocated to the Bestari Jaya Campus as it has large areas capable of creating initiatives and facilities such as soccer fields, rugby fields, futsal courts and so on.
According to the UNISEL Assistant Sports Director, Mohd. Anuar bin Husin, in the early of establishment, a sports and culture center called the "Institute of Sports Industry Development" or in Malay “Institut Pengurusan Industri Sukan” (IPIS). Although the name changed, but the students and staffs still called the sports and cultural center as “IPIS”. Originally, the Diploma in sports industry management was under the sports industry management institute, when it was replaced by a sports and cultural center, the diploma program was transferred to the Faulty of Business And Accountancy.
In the terms of culture, cultural activities can also be performed here in addition to sporting activities as they are also equipped with cultural tools such as musical instruments, students are allowed to use musical instruments provided for any event or competition. Dance studios are also provided for students to further their cultural activities at UNISEL. Cultural activities are always activated by students because the dance studio will always be filled with UNISEL students who want to practice dancing.
Facilities Provided As A Mutual Benefit
According to Mohd. Anuar, this sports and cultural center has two different branches, which are from the sports branch, it plays a key role in providing convenience to students. "We encourage students to participate in the tournament, we ask them to compete at a higher level where we personally assist the athlete”, he said during the interview. Organizing sports activities is also organized by the sports and cultural center of the students and staff.
This development also applies to the cultural branch, Mohd Anuar said “if someone is good at dancing and singing we encourage them to go to the games and they will also teach them”. Besides, they also provided a consultation for those who want to do any event that related about sports and culture. For example, if there is any association that wants to organize a sport related event and culture, they will assist in the event.
It is also closely related to the facilities of the sports equipment provided. If students or staff want to compete or compete they will provide high quality sports equipment. Mohd. Anuar said "we will assist in terms of facilities where we will assist them as appropriate, for example, when futsal is held, we will provide the ball and if badminton is held, we will provide the net only because the racket and shuttle can be carried by the students. “The facilities are divided into two: sports equipment facilities and sports facilities, in terms of facilities we have futsal and basketball courts, halls, and racing fields.”
If a student wants to do a sporting activity but does not have a sports equipment, they can borrow the equipment at a sports and cultural center provided they have to keep the equipment for use by others. For example, if a student wants to play futsal and the absence of a futsal ball, they can borrow the futsal ball at a sports and cultural center provided that the ball is returned on time or after the student has finished playing futsal. Besides, Gym rooms are also available for students and staff but according to schedule, men and women are set aside to avoid any unwanted behavior.

New-look The UNISEL Sports Complex
On July 15, 2019, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Selangor, Prof. Dato 'Dr. Mohammad Redzuan Othman officiated the UNISEL Sports Complex Opening Ceremony. The opening of the Sports Complex Opening Ceremony was successfully attended by the top management university.
Prof. Dato 'Dr. Mohammad Redzuan Othman, President and Vice-Chancellor of UNISEL, in a brief speech, said that each of these upgraded sports facilities would benefit the entire university community. He also called on all parties to take full advantage of this sports facility and that every facility is kept in good condition.
The UNISEL sports complex was built in 2006 without proper planning and by 2019, there are many damaged areas and objects that make it difficult for many students to use the facilities in the sports complex. Thus in 2019, Sports and cultural centers have upgraded the sports complex while the state government has also assisted in the project by allocating $ 3 million for them to upgrade the sports complex.
Mohd. Anuar said “of these 3 million dollars, not all upgrades are possible and all we have to do is repaint the building and replace the leaked gutter to reduce maintenance costs. “it focuses on things that are always damaged, such as gutter leaks and airconds because some of them are too old and damaged and replaced with new ones.

The gym room has also been moved to a new location and the gym equipment has been replaced with a new one for the convenience of the students who use the equipment as the old equipment is very dangerous for the students as it can cause injury to the students.
The old tennis court next to the sports complex has been renovated and replaced with futsal and basketball courts. According to Mohd. Anuar, UNISEL follows the culture of sports at universities abroad which provides tennis courts but many students do not play tennis or use the courts. As such, they plan to make it a place where many students focus on futsal and basketball as it is a sport that most students at UNISEL like.
Although replaced by futsal and basketball courts, tennis courts still exist in the residential area of the staff and students are allowed to play tennis there without asking permission. Students are also advised to come to the tennis court for tennis purposes rather than unwanted purposes such as robbing a staff home or doing unwanted things.
Students can take advantage of all their free time at this sports complex with activities that are physically fit and students can also do any tournaments or sports competitions in order to activate sports activities. In addition, the UNISEL association club has also made good use of the facilities provided by sports and culture center.
