Interpersonal communication is the act of exchanging message, information and feeling whether verbally or non verbally. Of course, words as inter and exchange itself represent a connection between two or more people. Also, we are a social being, we meet people every day, in school, at workplace and even at home. So, communication is inevitable in our daily life, whether we decide not to speak for a day, our body language or gestures also represent something and send a message to others to be perceived. Since, Interpersonal communication is unavoidable and basically, we need communication to live, it made it, really important to us.
We live in a society, where there will be a never ending human interaction. We need people to build our life and the major stages that we go through involve communication, from school, to work and to having a family of our own. For example, we start with school, our teachers give knowledge to us via communication, from it, we will get to be better person and gain new skills for our future. Then, at school we have classmates, in order to make and have friends, we need to have a conversation with them, to get to know them, so that we can build a friendship bond. Besides that, when there are assignments or projects, to fulfill it, we need to discuss with our teachers, if it is a group project, we need to work in a team with our friends or partners. All of those will be hard to achieve if there is no communication. Often with communication people still tends to make mistake due to miscommunication or misunderstanding what more if without communication?
Next, the working stage, where communication is vital. We may escape communicating when we are at school, maybe because we are an extreme introvert person. However, at work, a serious and professional environment, communication is the key. Even at the very beginning of getting a job also include communicating, where we need to go for an interview and tell the interviewee on why they should hire us. Together with, an effective communication skill will be excellent because it is really needed in the working environment. We need to communicate clear and precise, not only verbally also non verbally. To avoid causing any issues regarding misinterpreting and misunderstanding since having to start over and repeat our effort will be a waste of energy and time. Having a friend in the workplace also a good idea, to not only have conversational partner but they also can give us some important news or information to us in the work place that we might have miss, therefore we will not be left out.
Furthermore, having a family is the other major stage that we go through in our life. Plus, we are not only using communication in our professional lives but also private and personal lives. Getting to know people and wanting to fall in love, all of those involve communication, especially when we decide to get married and have a family with someone. Communicate with body language and gestures to determine whether we are interested or not. At that point, where we start to get comfortable and interested with each other, we will start to converse into more personal and detailed about ourselves. To add, interpersonal communication also can make us happy because we get to know people, we build friendship and love. Hence, we can express our thoughts and problems to them. We might feel depress and lonely without family and friends because we do not have anyone to rely on and communicate on our feelings. Going back to when all the process of getting to know each other is done finally settled in and secure a marriage, there will be a lot more processes involving communication, such as buying a house, family planning, teaching our children and the list goes on and on.
In conclusion, we can see that interpersonal communication is useful and needed to basically live our life. That is why learning communication is important too because the more we use communication effectively, we have a better chance of living a good life, since there will be less misunderstand happening. Not only interpersonal communication has advantages in our daily life but also the world. Since, when there are less misinterpretation and more people happy with each other, it will lead to a peaceful world.
